Curriculum Vitae

I received my medical diploma from the University of Athens with distinction in 2006. Then I was trained and worked for several years at the University Hospital of Cologne in Germany. Between 2006 and 2009 I was employed as a scientific assistant at the Institute of Anatomy of the Cologne University and participated in teaching human anatomy, neuroanatomy and histology. In 2009 I completed my doctoral dissertation with great honor (magna cum laude).

In 2007 I joined the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University Hospital of Cologne and completed my ENT specialty training program in 2013. I then worked as a specialist and later on I was appointed as Consultant (Oberarzt) Through the years of working at a university hospital I have undertaken extensive training and gained experience in various specific fields of otolaryngology, such as:

– ear surgery

– cochlear implants

– audiology and pediatric audiology

– endoscopic surgery of the nose and the paranasal sinuses

– endoscopy and surgery of the salivary glands

– head and neck oncology

– phoniatrics and phonosurgery

– management of swallowing disorders

– management of smell and taste disorders

Furthermore, I had the opportunity to participate in and perform many research studies, results of which have been published as peer-reviewed articles in medical journals and presented in scientific conferences. I was actively involved in teaching and training medical students, junior doctors and other ENT surgeons and was the teaching coordinator for Otolaryngology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne. Furthermore, I was participating in the annual post-graduate seminars at the ENT Clinic (otorhinolaryngology, parotid, pharyngeal and laryngeal surgery). In 2015, in collaboration with the Neurosurgery Clinic we organized the first Interdisciplinary Skull Base Surgery Training Seminar at the University of Cologne.

And now? After a period of six years in Greece and ten years in Germany I decided to return to Cyprus and practice medicine at the country’s largest hospital. You can find me at the Nicosia General Hospital, where I manage general pediatric and adult conditions of the entire clinical and surgical spectrum of ENT. Teaching is still one of my major interests as I participate in the training of ENT residents and medical students as a scientific collaborator of the University of Cyprus Medical School. In collaboration with colleagues and universities in Cyprus and abroad I am still participating in various research activities and I am a regular reviewer for well-known scientific journals. I have published more than 30 articles in scientific journals and contributed in more than 60 conference presentations.
